Kuching must keep up pressure if they want to beat Selangor

PETALING JAYA: Kuching City are determined to keep up their momentum when they take on Selangor next in the Super League.

Coming off their 3-0 win against Kedah on Wednesday, Kuching City head coach Aidil Sharin Sahak has already begun preparations for their clash against Selangor, aiming to keep their performance at a high when they play on Sunday at the State Stadium in Kuching.

“With the win against Kedah, the momentum and morale are getting better. But we know the match against Selangor won’t be easy.

“They have good players, we have played against them recently, and we have both won and lost. It will be a tough game for us,” he said.

A good result against the Red Giants will allow the Cats to consolidate their fourth position in the league with 33 points.

In the match against Kedah, which was a rescheduled fixture meant to be played on Jan 24 but was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch, saw Kuching City’s Ahmad Hazwan Bakri score first in the 44th minute.

In the second half, winger Ramadhan Saifullah made it two in the 58th minute, before Ghanaian striker Jordan Mintah sealed the win in added time.

Aidil added that for the upcoming match, it would be difficult to demand more from the players as they have been doing a stellar job in recent fixtures.

“I can’t demand more from the players. We had three goals against Kedah and two goals before that against Pahang.

“That’s not easy. The defence has been keeping a clean sheet in the past three matches, and we need that consistency moving forward.

“In the league, consistency is key to keep up with the top four or five clubs,” he said.

Aidil also thanked the fans who turned up to the stadium on Wednesday, stating that the support fuels the players to keep going.

For the match against Selangor, the club’s management have announced that tickets will be free, urging fans to fill the stadium and show their support for the team.
