Nafuzi expects Turtles to carry FA Cup momentum into league games

PETALING JAYA: Terengganu coach Nafuzi Zain wants to see the same fighting spirit they showed in the FA Cup when they take on Star City in the Super League today.

The Turtles bounced back from a slow start to the season with a 3-2 win over Brunei in their FA Cup round-of-16 first leg match on Wednesday, and Nafuzi hopes to see his charges carry that momentum into their league games.

“The win against Brunei definitely lifted the players’ morale after we could not get a win in the opening matches of the season,” said Nafuzi.

“But we can’t afford to be complacent and must be fully prepared for the next game.

“Every match has its own challenges. Star City will also be in good spirits after they advanced to the FA Cup quarter-finals.

“Our players need to work hard to get a positive result in Perlis.”

Terengganu had opened their Super League season with a 3-0 win over Melaka, but fell 0-3 to Selangor before a 0-0 draw with Penang.

The Turtles will most likely be without the services of key players Gervane Kastaneer and Victor Ruiz, who are out due to injury.

Nafuzi added that the tight schedule makes it difficult for teams to ensure they are injury-free.

“Three matches in about a week, and we have to travel as well. Of course, we are worried because the players are exhausted after the journey.

“But we have to remain positive and keep pushing to give the fans the win,” he said.
