PETALING JAYA: After playing in front of empty seats at home, Selangor will have their fans back in the stands when they travel to Cheras to face Kuala Lumpur in the Super League's Klang Valley derby on Sunday (Sept 13).
Red Giants head coach Kim Pan-gon has urged fans to fill the visitors’ section at the Kuala Lumpur Football Stadium as both teams head into the derby on the back of strong results this week.
Selangor are serving a two-match spectator ban imposed by the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) over incidents involving spectator conduct and match organisation during their match against Negri Sembilan last season.
“This is a historic game, the derby game, and Selangor fans have pride, so we must win,” said Pan-gon.
“We need everyone to come out as a unit and show our rivals that we are strong, not just on the pitch but in every part of the club.
“We have to ensure we occupy the game and we will give our best performance.”
The Red Giants played in front of empty seats on Wednesday when they beat Sabah 2-1 in the FA Cup round-of-16 second leg, securing their place in the quarter-finals with a 4-3 aggregate win.
Kuala Lumpur are also heading into the derby after reaching the last eight with a 1-0 aggregate win over Perak.
The City Boys were held to a goalless draw at home in the second leg but had secured a first-leg win in Perak earlier this month.
The Red Giants’ last visit to Kuala Lumpur in March ended in a 3-2 win, while their first meeting at the Petaling Jaya Stadium last season ended 0-0.
