PETALING JAYA: Kuala Lumpur need to find variety in their attacks and not rely only on key players ahead of the Klang Valley derby against Selangor tomorrow.
Head coach Datuk Dollah Salleh admitted the team have work to do up front as the City Boys seemed to depend only on striker Paulo Josue for goals in recent matches.
Although the team secured their FA Cup quarter-final spot after a 0-0 draw with Perak in the second leg on Wednesday, giving them a 1-0 aggregate win, Dollah said that the other players have to step up and get the goals.
“For the past few games, we have only been relying on Paulo to score and that’s something we can’t afford to be doing,” said Dollah.
“Of course, every player in the team wants to score goals. But counting on one player to do it is not the way.
“We are still finding our rhythm in attack and are focused on improving our finishing.”
KL will host the Red Giants in their fifth Super League fixture at the Cheras Stadium, and Dollah hopes the team can find consistency after a shaky start.
KL lost their opening match 3-0 to Negri Sembilan last month, before a 6-0 thrashing by Kuching City.
They then won their third match 1-0 against Brunei and went on to beat Kelantan 3-1 earlier this month.
“We are still like a yo-yo; we haven’t found our footing. Things are not terrible, but we can’t be hoping for one player to score,” added Dollah.
Selangor head into the match with confidence as well after they entered the FA Cup quarter-finals with a 2-1 win over Sabah on Wednesday in the second leg match.
Kim Pan-gon’s squad remain unbeaten in the Super League as they have collected nine points from three fixtures.
