PETALING JAYA: Asian Games debutants Nurqayyum Nazmi Mohd Nazim and Yong Rui Jie claimed the first medal for Malaysia in the diving competition after finishing third in the men's 3m springboard synchronised event at Tokyo Aquatics Centre.
Nurqayyum-Rui Jie, who are also the reigning SEA Games winners in the event, finished the six-dive competition with a total of 345.81 points to finished third.
South Korean pair Kim Ji-wook-Shin Jung-whi were in bronze position with two dives to go but could not hold the advantage and were pushed out of the podium, settling for fourth with a total of 342.75 points.
Ikuma Senri-Suyama Haruki earned the silver for hosts Japan with 355.56 points.
China Wang Zongyuan-Zheng Jiuyuan took the gold with a total of 465.87 points.
Pandelela Rinong-Nur Eilisha Rania were earlier placed fourth in the women's 10m platform synchronised event with a total of 247.29 points.
