Wendy dives home for coaching role after ending Lion City stint

PETALING JAYA: Three-time Olympian Wendy Ng Yan Yee has returned to help the Malaysia diving team.

The former national diver accepted an offer from the National Sports Council (NSC) recently to return from Singapore to work with the national diving set-up based in Bukit Jalil.

Wendy ended her stint in Singapore Aquatics as their talent development coach last month.

Wendy was the first former national diver to venture abroad to take up a coaching post outside the country when she accepted the coaching offer from Singapore Aquatics early last year.

But that is in the past and she is ready to start a new chapter in her life again next month.

Wendy, 33, agreed to return for personal family reason and also because she also wants to take up a new challenge.

"It was a good experience in Singapore and I grew with the sport from a coaching sense.

"I think Malaysian diving also needs the former divers to contribute back.

"I will be working with the very young divers and try to bring them up their skillset, so it's something I have been doing in Singapore before this," said the Kuala Lumpur-born diver.

Wendy announced her retirement two years ago following a decorated career that saw her winning multiple medals at the SEA Games, Asian Games and Commonwealth Games stage.

Wendy will be the fifth former national diver to be part of the national coaching set-up in Malaysia.

The others now working as coaches in different capacities are Datuk Leong Mun Yee, Ooi Tze Liang, Nor Aznizal Najib and Farah Begum Abdullah.
