A pearl among divers


Sweet-faced national diver Leong Mun Yee is one of a kind. While diving champions around the world get younger by the year, Mun Yee defies the odds by standing tall as one of the older athletes still making a big splash in the sport. The 34-year-old has served the national team for 24 years and is still going strong. She is a 17-time SEA Games gold medallist and stood on the podium several times at the Commonwealth and Asian Games. The softspoken but strong-willed Mun Yee has one more mission before she calls it quits – to qualify for her fifth Olympic Games, which will be held in Tokyo next year. StarSport’s TAN MING WAI caught up with her during the Chinese New Year celebration to discover the secrets of her longevity in the sport. 

StarSport: You’ve not turned back since joining the Jaya 98 programme (in 1995). How have you lasted this long in this demanding sport?
