Nur Umairah bags silver, misfortune derails Izzah’s title defence


Kicking in: Nur Umairah Qhaisara Zulfikha Razak smashed the national record after clocking 11.441s in the qualifying round of the women’s junior ranks at the Asian Championships.

PETALING JAYA: Teenager Nur Umairah Qhaisara Zulfikha Razak saved the blushes for Malaysia by clinching silver in the women’s junior ranks as Olympian cyclist Nurul Izzah Izzati Mohd Asri found herself relegated from the podium at the Asian Champion­ships in Tagaytay, Philippines.

Nur Umairah, who is from Johor, smashed the national record after clocking 11.441s in the qualifying round at the Tagaytay City Velodrome, rewriting the previous record of 11.743s set by Nur Alyssa Mohd Farid at the 2023 Asian Junior Champion­ships in Nilai.
