PETALING JAYA: National bowler Hafiz Zainuddin made up for his disappointment in Kuala Lumpur last week by clinching the Sonic International Classic title in Singapore after defeating home favourite Darren Aun in the grand finals on Saturday (April 26).

It was far from an easy victory as Hafiz was forced into a sudden-death match after Darren edged him 212-205 in the initial final.

However, Hafiz showed tremendous mental strength to bounce back and win the decider 248-235, taking home the champion’s prize of S$18,000 (RM60,000).

It was also Hafiz’s second title of the year, following his victory at the DIBC International Bowling Tournament in Dubai in February.

Adding to the sweetness of the triumph, Hafiz’s success continued Malaysia’s dominance in the tournament since its inception in 2023, with Syazirol Shamsuddin and Izz Naqiuddin Putera Islahuddin having won it in the past two editions.

Meanwhile, teammates Danial Abu Samah and Rafiq Ismail finished sixth and seventh, respectively.
