PETALING JAYA: Malaysia’s badminton team can count themselves fortunate after arriving in Nagoya without any problems ahead of the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, which begin on Saturday (Sept 19).
Team manager Datuk Ng Chin Chai said all 20 players, together with the coaches and officials, arrived safely on Thursday (Sept 17) morning, with everything going smoothly upon their arrival.
The team also did not have to wait long before being taken to their hotel, where their rooms were quickly allocated.
“The badminton team arrived in Nagoya in the morning and after about two hours at the accreditation validation centre, we were transported to our hotel.
“At the hotel, sufficient rooms were quickly allocated to us. So far, the rooms, food and gym facilities are reasonable,” said Chin Chai when contacted.
The Malaysian contingent had a much smoother experience compared to several other teams, including China and India, who reportedly had to wait for more than six hours at the airport for shuttle buses to take them to their hotels.
China’s badminton team eventually arranged their own transport, with some renting cars while others took public buses.
The badminton competition will begin with the team events on Sunday (Sept 20) at the Ichinomiya City Municipal Gymnasium, followed by the individual events from Sept 25.
