PETALING JAYA: National junior doubles coach Pang Cheh Chang was discharged from hospital on Thursday (Sept 17) after being admitted when he nearly fainted.
Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) deputy president Datuk V. Subramaniam confirmed that Cheh Chang is in stable condition after he was taken to Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital in Alor Setar when he almost fainted.
The 52-year-old coach suddenly felt weak and nearly collapsed while watching Wong Tze Han-Teoh Chong Yee take on Jason Afandy Wong-Lum Chee Kian at the Kedah Badminton Association Hall during the National Under-18 Championships on Wednesday (Sept 16).
“Yesterday, while he was at the court, he suddenly collapsed. The medical team was there and immediately rushed him to Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital.
“When he collapsed, he had some difficulty speaking, but shortly after he was admitted, he was already able to speak.
“They managed to stabilise him and he remained in hospital. From what I was told this morning, he has already been discharged,” said Subramaniam.
Subramaniam, however, has yet to speak to Cheh Chang personally and is still waiting to find out the hospital’s diagnosis.
Despite his discharge, BAM are not taking any chances and want Cheh Chang to undergo further checks.
Subramaniam said the coach will be sent for a full medical check-up once he returns from Alor Setar.
“My decision is that once he comes back, I will ask the office to send him for a full medical check-up because we cannot take any risks.
“First, we will get the report from the hospital in Alor Setar. From there, we will send him to a hospital here for a full medical check-up,” he added.
