PETALING JAYA: The Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) have given junior doubles coach Pang Cheh Chang the green light to return to work after his recent health scare.
Cheh Chang is understood to have resumed duties at the Academy Badminton Malaysia (ABM) in Bukit Kiara since Tuesday.
Three weeks ago, the 52-year-old reportedly almost fainted while coaching at the National Under-19 Championships in Alor Setar and was rushed to Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital.
BAM secretary Datuk Kenny Goh said Cheh Chang was also referred to the National Heart Institute (IJN) in Kuala Lumpur for further checks after returning from Kedah.
On the doctor’s advice, however, Cheh Chang has been told to avoid long-distance travel for the time being.
That has ruled him out of joining the national juniors at the World Junior Championships in Cairo, while he will also not travel with the players to the Malaysia Super 100, which begins next Tuesday in Iskandar Puteri, Johor.
"He has undergone checks and all the necessary procedures, and based on the doctor’s advice, he needs to cut down on travelling. He can still continue coaching as usual and come to the office like before.
"It is only the travelling that he needs to reduce for the time being, and we will follow the doctor’s advice," said Kenny when contacted.
Cheh Chang remains in charge of the national junior doubles training programme, but his workload will be reduced for the time being to allow him to focus on his recovery.
"In terms of his workload, he will need to discuss with his assistant coaches on how to divide the responsibilities, but he will still be the one planning the programme.
"At BAM, we will give him the space he needs to recover. He can continue coming to work as usual, according to the doctor’s advice," added Kenny.
