PETALING JAYA: The Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) are hoping for a repeat of their two-title haul when the Malaysia Super 100 returns to Iskandar Puteri, Johor, from Oct 13-18.
BAM deputy president Datuk V. Subramaniam wants the national players competing in the tournament to make the most of home advantage.
“We are expecting champions. Not just one, we are hoping for two. Our coaches have prepared the players well, but again, it all depends on how they perform on the day.
“Sometimes players can be very good in training, but things can be different once they are on court,” he said.
The Malaysia Super 100 was first held in 2023, with Malaysian shuttlers winning two titles in each of the first two editions.
In the inaugural edition at Stadium Titiwangsa in Kuala Lumpur, the winners were Leong Jun Hao (men’s singles) and Chan Peng Soon-Cheah Yee See (mixed doubles) and followed by Low Hang Yee-Ng Eng Cheong (men’s doubles) and Go Pei Kee-Teoh Mei Xing (women’s doubles) at Stadium Juara in Bukit Kiara.
Malaysia, however, had to settle for just one title in Iskandar Puteri last year through Kang Khai Xing-Aaron Tai in the men’s doubles.
Among the notable names confirmed for this year’s edition are Tokyo Olympics bronze medallist Anthony Ginting of Indonesia and former All-England champion Bagas Maulana, who will partner Apriyani Rahayu in the mixed doubles.
The Malaysia Super 100 also offers a total prize purse of US$120,000.
