Dynamic double A storm into Taiwan Open semis, Justin bows out

Aaron Chia and Aaron Tai

PETALING JAYA: Newly paired men’s doubles shuttlers Aaron Chia-Aaron Tai booked their spot in the Taiwan Open semi-finals in style after sending home favourites Lee Jhe-huei-Yang Po-hsuan packing on Friday (July 31).

The Malaysian pair, who are seeded fifth, came from behind to beat the Taiwanese duo 15-21, 21-7, 21-18 in 44 minutes at the Taipei Arena.

Chia and Tai will take on another Taiwanese pair in Chen Cheng-kuan-Liu Kuang-heng in the semi-finals.

They are competing in only their second tournament together after losing in the first round at the China Open last week.

Meanwhile, men’s singles shuttler Justin Hoh’s hopes of making the Taiwan Open semi-finals was dashed after he fell to South Korea’s Yoo Tae-bin.

World No. 50 Justin had held the lead for the majority of the first game, but world No. 73 Tae-bin caught up to win 21-17, 21-18 in 40 minutes at the Taipei Arena.
