PETALING JAYA: Mixed doubles shuttler Toh Ee Wei has paid a heartfelt tribute to departing coach Nova Widianto, thanking the Indonesian for his guidance, trust and unwavering support throughout their journey together.

Nova, who leaves the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) after three years, helped steer Ee Wei and partner Chen Tang Jie to Malaysia’s first-ever mixed doubles world title at the World Championships in Paris last year.

In an emotional message posted on social media, Ee Wei said saying goodbye was never easy to someone who had played such an important role in their careers.

“We respect the decision and are truly grateful that our paths crossed," said Ee Wei, who is currently in Melboourne, recovering after knee surgery.

"Every coach leaves a different impact, and we are happy and honoured to have had you as our coach,” she wrote.

Ee Wei also thanked Nova for believing in the pair and standing by the mixed doubles squad through the highs and lows.

“Thank you for your guidance, trust and dedication throughout our journey. Thank you for always taking care of team mixed doubles, supporting us, and helping us grow both on and off the court,” she said.

She wished the former world champion nothing but success in the next chapter of his coaching career.

"Thank you, coach, for being part of our journey."

Nova’s tenure with BAM was highlighted by Tang Jie-Ee Wei’s historic world title, while he also guided the national mixed doubles department through partnership changes, injuries and other challenges.
