PETALING JAYA: Men’s doubles shuttlers Aaron Tai-Kang Khai Xing pulled off a sensational performance by upsetting Indonesia's world No. 7 pair Sabar Gutama-Moh Reza to reach the Singapore Open quarter-finals.
World No. 27 Aaron-Khai Xing, competing in only their second Super 750 tournament, booked their spot in the last eight after winning 21-19, 21-17 in 38 minutes against the sixth seeds at the Singapore Indoor Stadium on Thursday (May 28).
The rising Malaysian duo got their revenge on Sabar-Moh, who had previously beaten them at the Macau Open last year.
It also marked Aaron-Khai Xing’s second win against a top 10 pair. They upset world No. 4 Satwiksairaj Rankireddy-Chirag Shetty of India in the opening round of the All-England in March before their campaign ended in the second round.
In the quarter-finals in Singapore, the world junior champions could have a rematch against Satwiksairaj-Chriag or face Taiwan’s Lee Jhe-huei-Yang Po-hsuan.
