South Korean star Se-young fires up team for another China shock

PETALING JAYA: High-riding An Se-young (pic) knows the sweet taste of toppling China in the Uber Cup Finals.

And she will be out to lead South Korea to another famous win when they face China in the final at the Forum Horsens in Denmark today.

South Korea have lifted the Uber Cup twice – in 2010 in Kuala Lumpur and in 2022 in Bangkok and both times, they stunned China.

Se-young was part of the victorious squad in Bangkok and will be aiming to steer her team to a third crown.

Yesterday, South Korea booked their place in the final after defeating Indonesia 3-1.

World No. 1 Se-young set the tone by beating world No. 6 Putri Kusuma 21-19, 21-5, before world No. 3 pair Baek Ha-na-Lee So-hee made it 2-0 with a 21-16, 19-21, 21-15 win over Febriana Dwipuji-Amallia Cahaya.

Indonesia pulled one back through Thalita Ramadhani, who beat Sim Yu-jin 21-19, 21-19, but Jeong Na-eun-Kim Hye-jeong sealed the tie with a 21-16, 21-18 victory over Rachel Allessya-Febi Setianingrum.

The 16-time champions China had an easier route, with the team led by Wang Zhiyi sweeping past Japan 3-0 in the other semi-final.
