PETALING JAYA: Professional singles shuttler Lee Zii Jia will be out to find his footing at the Vietnam Open in Ho Chi Minh City from Sept 8-13 after suffering a hard blow in his last tournament.
The 28-year-old Zii Jia went down to Malaysia’s Eogene Ewe in the first round of the Korean Masters early this month and later declined an invitation to represent the country at the Asian Games in Japan next month.
He wanted time to regroup, and the Vietnam Open will be an ideal platform for him to show his quality after a month of solid training.
The top two seeds in the tournament are world No. 29 Jason Teh of Singapore and Hong Kong’s Jason Gunawan.
Zii Jia was ranked 54th when his name was entered for the tournament but has since slipped four rungs to No. 58 in the latest world rankings.
The Vietnam Open gives Zii Jia a chance to win his first title this year – and his first since capturing the 2024 Australian Open.
He has also entered the Arctic Open in Finland but is currently fourth on the reserve list.
