PETALING JAYA: So far, so good for Malaysia in Herning.
Thomas Cup captain Aaron Chia has given the thumbs up to the team’s first three days at their centralised training camp in Denmark as they gear up for the Finals starting Friday in Horsens.
The mood in the camp has been upbeat, with players settling in well and sharpening their preparations.
“Everything at the camp has been running smoothly, and the facilities here have allowed us to focus fully on our preparations,” said Aaron, who forms world No. 2 partnership with Soh Wooi Yik.
The squad are also being well looked after, with a dedicated chef and support staff ensuring their meals and nutrition are properly managed - a boost as they build towards the team event.
"We’re more focused here, and the environment is more relaxed. From what I can see, everyone’s spirits are still high," Aaron said.
Support from the National Sports Institute (NSI) has further helped keep the players in top physical condition.
While Herning may be unfamiliar to most of the squad, they do have a local advantage in national singles coaching director Kenneth Jonassen, who hails from the city.
He has been key in making sure everything runs smoothly, particularly when it comes to logistics throughout the training camp.
The team will also play a series of simulation matches to recreate real tournament conditions ahead of the competition.
Malaysia are aiming to end a 34-year wait for the Thomas Cup title, having last lifted the trophy in 1992 in Kuala Lumpur.
