Wooi Yik’s Instagram update sparks speculation over BAM status

PETALING JAYA: A recent update on Soh Wooi Yik’s Instagram has sparked speculation over his status with the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM).

The world No. 2 men’s doubles player raised eyebrows after changing his Instagram bio to “Pro Badminton Player”.

The brief update quickly fuelled speculation among fans, with some suggesting it could signal a move away from BAM to turn professional.

However, Wooi Yik, who partners Aaron Chia, is currently contracted to BAM until 2028.

There has been no official statement from either BAM or Wooi Yik regarding the matter.

At the moment, Aaron-Wooi Yik are gearing up for the Asian Championships in Ningbo, China from April 7-12.

As the defending champions, they will face Taiwan’s Chiu Hsiang-chieh-Wang Chi-lin in the opening round.
