Go Pei Kee stands firm on exit, chooses time to ‘rediscover herself’

PETALING JAYA: Women’s doubles shuttler Go Pei Kee has no plans to return to the national squad as she is taking time to rediscover herself.

She recently shared a lengthy message on social media, expressing her appreciation for the support and concern shown towards her.

“I’m grateful to myself and to those who have helped me along the way. I truly appreciate all of you, including my fans. Even though I can’t reply to every message, I can still feel your support.

“I know you haven’t seen me over the past year, and I’m really sorry. But a lot of things are simply beyond our control, right?

“Recently, I’ve learned so much. Everyone has their own story, so don’t ever underestimate yourself.

“To the fans who have always supported me, I feel quite guilty that I can no longer show you myself competing. Let those beautiful memories stay as they are. I don’t know what the future holds, but I can only take it one step at a time.

“I’m really thankful for all your care and encouragement. It has meant so much to me. Before I knew it, it was already March, going into April 2026. Time really flies. I’m just glad I managed to pick myself up; otherwise, it would have felt suffocating. I’m also thankful that I managed to protect that fragile version of myself back then.

“I feel like I’ve been reborn. I’ve realised so many things. Listening to the stories of people around me and reflecting on myself has made me see how strong everyone is and how hard they are all trying to live their lives.

“I’m really happy, but that’s just how life is. I know I’ll make many mistakes, and I’ll also get many things right,” she said.

Earlier, Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) performance committee chairman Lee Chong Wei revealed that Pei Kee remained firm in her decision to leave the national set-up despite efforts to persuade her to reconsider.

Pei Kee, who previously partnered Teoh Mei Xing, surprised many when she abruptly left the national camp in January after earlier expressing her intention to split with Mei Xing.
