PETALING JAYA: Malaysia’s second-ranked mixed doubles pair Hoo Pang Ron-Cheng Su Yin are returning to the Asian Championships determined to make amends for their first-round exit on debut last year.
They are also hoping to finally find a breakthrough after an inconsistent run over the past year.
Pang Ron-Su Yin are one of four Malaysian pairs in the meet from April 7-12 in Ningbo, China, alongside Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei, Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai Jemie and Wong Tien Ci-Lim Chiew Sien.
Despite slipping to world No. 24, Pang Ron remains optimistic.
"This will be my second Asian Championships with Su Yin. Our main goal this year is to find a breakthrough and end our inconsistent run," said Pang Ron.
"We are still looking for ways to become more consistent."
The good news is that Su Yin is now fully recovered from her injury.
"All is good with Su Yin now. She has managed her recovery well and we are keeping our fingers crossed," said Pang Ron.
Pang Ron-Su Yin have competed in five tournaments so far this year but have yet to progress beyond the early rounds.
Pang Ron also pointed to world No. 1 pair Feng Yanzhe-Huang Dongping as a benchmark for consistency.
"They are very consistent, and Dongping always shows a never-say-die spirit. We really respect her," he said.
"She also guides her partner very well."
