PETALING JAYA: Professional men's singles shuttler Lee Zii Jia has received a significant boost after climbing to No. 79 in the latest world rankings. Based on the Badminton World Federation rankings update released on Tuesday (Jan 27), Zii Jia jumped 24 places after accumulating 22,440 points.
The sharp rise was fuelled by his run to the second round of the Indonesian Masters in Jakarta last week. Zii Jia is currently in Bangkok and will begin his Thailand Masters campaign against Julien Carraggi of Belgium in the first round on Wednesday (Jan 28).
Leong Jun Hao remains Malaysia's top men's singles player after moving up one rung to No. 29 in the world with 45,691 points, while Justin Hoh is next in line at No. 38 with 36,376 points.
In the women's singles, K. Letshanaa also enjoyed a notable improvement, climbing to No. 38 in the world with 36,938 points. Letshanaa impressed at the Indonesian Masters last week, where she not only stunned world No. 12 Michelle Li of Canada in the quarter-finals but also went on to reach the semi-finals before her run was halted by Thailand's Pitchamon Opatniputh.
