Zii Jia confirms US Open entry with his team completing visa arrangements

PETALING JAYA: Men’s singles shuttler Lee Zii Jia is set to continue his comeback trail in the United States after confirming his participation in next month’s US Open in California.

The United States Embassy in Kuala Lumpur shared Zii Jia and his team’s visit to apply for US visas yesterday, wishing him success in his upcoming campaign.

“From KL to LA! We were thrilled to welcome Malaysian badminton star Lee Zii Jia and his team to the US Embassy today as they prepare for their upcoming competition in Los Angeles,” said the Embassy on social media.

“Sports has a unique way of bringing our two nations together, and we can’t wait to see Zii Jia showcase his incredible talents on American courts.

“Safe travels and all the best, Zii Jia!”

The Super 300 tournament in California will take place from June 23-28.

The 28-year-old Zii Jia had opted to sit out the ongoing Malaysian Masters in Kuala Lumpur despite being given a spot in the qualifying rounds following several withdrawals in the main draw.

His campaign at the Thailand open last week ended in the first round after he fell to Israel’s Daniil Dubovenko.

The two-time Thailand Open champion in 2022 and 2024 entered the main draw in Thailand through qualification.

Zii Jia is currently third in the reserve list for the Super 750 Singapore Open taking place from May 26-31.

Zii Jia is also on the qualifying list for the Super 500 Australian Open from June 9-14, where he won the 2024 edition.

His name is also in the main draw for the Super 300 Macau Open from June 16-21, which could be his final stop before heading to the United States.
