PETALING JAYA: Former world No. 1 men’s doubles pair Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin insist they are still in top physical condition after clearing the first round of the Malaysian Masters on Tuesday (May 19).

Third seeds Sze Fei-Izzuddin had little trouble dispatching Indonesia’s Putra Erwiansyah-Bagas Maulana 21-16, 21-14 in just 30 minutes.

“I don’t think it was an easy game just now. They gave us a lot of trouble and we had to overcome that. I think we just kept doing the same things, but maybe they lost focus in the second game, and that worked to our advantage,” said Sze Fei.

The convincing win showed that they remain in good shape despite having little time to rest after crashing out in the Thailand Open semi-finals on Sunday.

Less than 24 hours later, they were back in Malaysia to attend the Malaysian Masters test court session early on Monday (May 18).

Before heading to Bangkok, the pair had only a few days to recover after spending three weeks in Denmark for the Thomas Cup Finals in Horsens.

“I think our bodies are okay. We had enough time to recover and we have a good team to help with our recovery,” added Sze Fei.

Sze Fei-Izzuddin will next face fellow Malaysians Chia Weijie-Teo Ee Yi, who also advanced after beating Canada’s Kevin Lee-Ty Lindeman 21-18, 21-15 in the opening round.
