Brief homecoming for Tat Meng after Sydney accident


PETALING JAYA: Former Lee Zii Jia coach Wong Tat Meng has finally returned to Malaysia following a serious accident in Sydney four months ago.

The 58-year-old shared the news of his homecoming on social media on Wednesday (Jan 21), noting that it was only a short break.

“By God’s grace, I have the chance to come home for a short break. Four months ago, I survived a serious accident. Every step of recovery is a blessing. Thankful beyond words,” Tat Meng wrote on his social media page.

His return was warmly welcomed by close friends, including former physical conditioning coach for Zii Jia, Lim Joe Heang. “Welcome home, coach Tat Meng. Seeing you back is more than enough,” Joe Heang posted online.

In September last year, Tat Meng was seriously injured in a motorcycle accident along Putty Road in the Garland Valley region and was admitted to intensive care.

Tat Meng previously coached Zii Jia from 2023 until the end of 2024 and was instrumental in helping the former Asian champion secure a bronze medal at the Paris Olympics.

After his contract ended, Wong moved to Australia to serve as coach and programme director for Roketto Badminton Club.
