Fever ends Jun Hao's hopes in Indian Open

PETALING JAYA: Men’s singles shuttler Leong Jun Hao was forced to retire from his opening round match against Japan’s Yushi Tanaka in the Indian Open due to a high fever.

Jun Hao lost the first game 5-21 and was trailing 3-8 in the second when he had to call it quits at the Indira Gandhi Sports Complex in New Delhi on Wednesday (Jan 14).

Men’s singles coach K. Yogendran said that the 26-year-old was suffering from a high fever.

“Jun Hao started having a fever on Tuesday (Jan 13), and it got worse today,” said Yogendran.

The 26-year-old’s exit meant that Malaysia’s challenge in the men’s singles in the competition had ended.

Earlier, Justin Hoh also bowed out after going down 17-21, 15-21 to China’s Lu Guangzu
