Aaron-Wooi Yik smash past English pair to enter q-finals

PETALING JAYA: Men’s doubles shuttlers Aaron Chia-Soh Woi Yik moved closer to retaining their Singapore Open title after they defeated England’s Ben Lane-Sean Vendy in the second round of the tournament on Thursday (May 28).

Aaron-Wooi Yik will move on to the quarter-finals of the Super 750 tournament after winning 21-18, 21-16 against the world No. 13 English pair.

With the win, the second seeds also extend their head-to-head score against Lane-Vendy to 7-4, with the English duo having won their previous encounter at the Arctic Open final last year.

Defending champions Aaron-Wooi Yik will face the fifth-seeded Chinese pair Liang Weikeng-Wang Chang next.

The Malaysians have only won three of their previous 13 meetings with Weikeng-Chang, having recently lost to them at the Thomas Cup in Denmark last month.
