Thai sisters end Pearly-Thinaah's Singapore Open run

PETALING JAYA: Women’s doubles shuttlers Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah saw their run at the Singapore Open end in the second round when they were upset by Thai sisters Benyapa and Nuntakarn Aimsarrd.

World No. 2 Pearly-Thinaah, who are making their comeback since competing together at the Asian Championships last month, bowed out of the Super 750 tournament after losing 16-21, 19-21 to world No. 106 Benyapa-Nuntakarn.

It was the Thai duo’s first win against the Malaysians, with Pearly-Thinaah having won the previous two meetings at the 2021 Thailand Open and 2023 Hong Kong Open.

Pearly-Thinaah were out of action as a pair since early last month due to Pearly’s back injury, forcing her to miss the Uber Cup and also the Malaysian Masters at home last week to recover.
