PETALING JAYA: Women’s doubles shuttlers Ong Xin Yee-Carmen Ting have a good opportunity to end their wait for a senior title after marching into the World Tour Super 100 Guwahati Masters final.
Xin Yee-Carmen had little trouble dispatching world No. 61 homesters K. Ashwini Bhat-Shikha Gautam 21-14, 21-10 in a last- four match that lasted just 26 minutes at the Saru Sajai Sports Complex in Guwahati, India, yesterday.
The victory was a breakthrough for the world No. 29 pair as they reached their maiden senior international final.
Xin Yee-Carmen also continued their steady progress after making it as far as the semi-finals in the Super 300 Syed Modi India International last week before going down to home favourites and eventual winners Treesa Jolly-Gayatri Gopichand.
The youngsters will be keen to get their hands on their first senior title when they take on either Indonesia’s Isyana Syahira-Rinjani Kwinnara or Turkey’s Bengisu Ercetin-Nazlican Inci in the final today.
Xin Yee-Carmen, who are both only 19, are highly rated by national women’s doubles head coach Rosman Razak.
Rosman believes the duo have a bright future which bodes well for Malaysia’s women’s doubles as he looks for back-ups to national No. 1 and world No. 2 pair Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah.
Securing the title will give Xin Yee-Carmen a boost as they look to end their year on a high.
The pair have also registered to compete in the Odisha Masters next week.
