Sze Fei-Izzuddin march into Japan Masters semi-finals

PETALING JAYA: Professional men’s doubles pair Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Rumsani kept their World Tour Finals hopes alive after advancing to the semi-finals of the Japan Masters on Friday (Nov 14).

The quarter-final at the Kumamoto Prefectural Gymnasium saw Sze Fei-Izzuddin pushed hard by Taiwan’s Lee Jhe-huei and Yang Po-hsuan before prevailing 21-16, 10-21, 21-16 after a 46 minute battle.

Sze Fei-Izzuddin will face Japan’s Hiroki Midorikawa-Kyohei Yamashita after the home pair defeated Wan Arif Junaidi-Yap Roy King 19-21, 14-21 in another quarter-final match.

Also bowing out were Choong Hon Jian-Mohd Haikal Nazri who lost 16-21, 16-21 to Chiu Hsiang chieh and Wang Chi lin.

In the women’s doubles, top seeds Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah had little trouble advancing to the next round after beating Hsu Yin hui and Lin Jhih yun 21-13, 21-17.

It was unfortunate for women’s singles shuttler Wong Li Ching who could not overcome Thailand star Ratchanok Intanon and went down 17-21, 9-21.
