PETALING JAYA: Man Wei Chong-Soh Wooi Yik survived an early scare to advance to the second round of the Korean Masters after fighting back to beat Japan's Hiroki Midorikawa-Yuto Nakashizu on Tuesday (Aug 4).
Playing at the Asan Yi Sun-sin Gymnasium, the Malaysians recovered from a game down to defeat the newly-formed Japanese pair 12-21, 21-17, 21-11 in 45 minutes.
Also through to the second round were independent pair Low Hang Yee-Ng Eng Cheong, who edged fellow Malaysians Wan Arif Wan Junaidi-Kang Khai Xing 21-16, 13-21, 22-20.
The defeat was Arif-Khai Xing's third straight since they were paired together at the China Open last month.
Tee Kai Wun-Yap Roy King, meanwhile, booked their place in the second round after coming from a game down to beat Singapore's Terry Hee-Wesley Koh 18-21, 21-17, 21-16.
In the women's doubles, Cheng Su Hui-Chong Jie Yu also progressed after overcoming Vietnam's Pham Thi Dieu Ly-Pham Thi Kanh 21-16, 20-22, 23-21.
It was the end of the road, however, for Vanessa Ng-Tan Zhing Yi, who fell 12-21, 16-21 to fifth seeds Bao Lijing-Cao Zihan of China.
In the men's singles, professional shuttler Lee Ming Hong successfully came through two rounds of qualifying to secure his place in the main draw.
Representing Ampang Jaya Badminton Club, Ming Hong first defeated South Korea's Choi Ji-hoon 21-16, 21-11 before returning to the court a few hours later to fight back from a game down and beat Kim Hae-deun 17-21, 21-9, 21-17 to seal his place in the main draw.
