Ikhwan, Liek Hou shine as Malaysia bag five titles in Indonesia

PETALING JAYA: The national para badminton team wrapped up their campaign at the Indonesian Para Badminton International in Solo on Sunday (Nov 2) in style, clinching five titles from the tournament.

The standout performer was Mohd Ikhwan Ramli, who clinched three titles in three different events.

Ikhwan, the top seed in the men’s singles WH1 (wheelchair) category, eased past India’s Shashank Kumar 21-15, 21-16.

He then partnered Noor Azwan Noorlan in the men’s doubles WH1-WH2 (wheelchair) category to beat the second seeds, Prem Kumar Ale and Abu Hubaida, 21-18, 21-18.

Ikhwan continued his fine run in the mixed doubles, teaming up with Peru’s Pilar Jauregui to outplay India’s Prem Kumar Ale and Alphia James 21-9, 21-6.

Paralympic champion Cheah Liek Hou also shone after bagging two titles in the tournament.

In the men’s singles SU5 (upper limb impairment) event, Liek Hou outclassed France’s Meril Loquette 21-17, 21-10.

He then joined forces with India’s Ruthick Ragupathi in the men’s doubles, where they won all four of their matches in the round-robin format to emerge champions.

“Thank you, Indonesia Para Badminton International. SU5 singles and doubles champion. Tomorrow, I’ll be heading to Japan for the back-to-back tournaments in Shizuoka. Wishing for a safe journey and I’ll continue to give my best there,” said Liek Hou in his social media post.
