Chong Wei to head performance committee in BAM's new streamlined structure

PETALING JAYA: It is a homecoming of sorts for badminton legend Datuk Seri Lee Chong Wei, who will put his vast experience and expertise to good use after being appointed to lead the Badminton Association of Malaysia's (BAM) performance committee effective Saturday (Oct 18).

The announcement was made by BAM president Datuk Seri Tengku Zafrul Abdul Aziz after chairing the association's council meeting in Bandar Sunway.

"We also agreed on the chairmen for nearly all committees. Chong Wei, for example, will head the performance committee," said Tengku Zafrul.

BAM has streamlined its structure, reducing the number of committees from 14 to 10. There will be only nine chairmen appointed, one of whom will head two committees.

Tengku Zafrul also revealed that he would not be heading any of the committees, nor would he or secretary-general Datuk Kenny Goh serve as members, to avoid any conflict of interest.

"We streamlined the committees from 14 to 10, focusing on aligning them with the Tangkis 2030 plan.

"From these 10 committees, we have agreed to appoint nine chairmen, all of whom are council members, while the rest will serve as members. We will finalise this soon and also invite experts in their respective fields to be part of the committees," said Tengku Zafrul.
