New injury setback for Zii Jia as he pulls out of upcoming tourneys

PETALING JAYA: Men's singles shuttler Lee Zii Jia suffered a fresh injury setback and has withdrawn from the upcoming European tournaments.

Team LZJ confirmed that the 27-year-old would not be able to recover in time from a back injury and would miss the back-to-back Denmark Open (Oct 14-19), French Open (Oct 21-26) and Hylo Open (Oct 28-Nov 2).

"Lee Zii Jia has been advised by medical experts to undergo an extended rehabilitation programme for persistent lower back pain," read the statement from Team LZJ.

"As such, he will miss the following planned tournament participation at the Denmark Open, French Open and Hylo Open during the month of October.

"2025 has indeed been a challenging season for Zii Jia, but his determination to overcome the challenges and support from fans as well as sponsors have been a huge motivational strength.

"The team will update on his progress accordingly, and once again, we thank you for your unconditional support," added Team LZJ.

Zii Jia retired during his last match in the China Masters first round against Taiwan's Lin Chun-yi last month.

The independent player only returned to competitions after a five-month absence, participating in the World Championships in Paris in August.
