KUALA LUMPUR: Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) require more time before drawing conclusions on the national squad’s disappointing outing at the All-England two weeks ago in Birmingham.
BAM acting president Datuk V. Subramaniam, who chaired the performance task force committee meeting on Monday (March 24), said the association is currently reviewing all reports submitted by the coaching team.
It is understood that the post-mortem meeting also discussed the evaluation of players who competed in three other tournaments in Europe including the German Open, Orleans Masters and Swiss Open.
"We are still in the process. There is nothing to report, nothing to explain, nothing to say.
"The process involves looking at many angles. It’s not something that can be assessed just like that. It will take a few days to look at many things," said Subramaniam after chairing the meeting at the Academy Badminton Malaysia in Bukit Kiara on Monday.
The Malaysian camp arrived in Birmingham with high hopes, especially in the men’s doubles, which featured six pairs, including three independent pairs, in their bid to end an 18-year title drought at the prestigious tournament.
However, most BAM players suffered early exits, including Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik, who were touted as strong title contenders.
The only BAM representatives who made a deep run were women’s doubles pair Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah, but their campaign ended in the quarter-finals, with Pearly also struggling with a right foot injury.
As a result, this year’s All-England campaign can be considered Malaysia’s worst performance in the tournament’s history.
