Team led by Faiq assure bronze after beating Denmark


Good job: Malaysian team posing after beating Denmark to reach semi-finals of the mixed team event at the World Junior Championships in China.

PETALING JAYA: Malaysia led by Mohd Faiq Masawi continue to thrive under the new rally scoring format by reaching the mixed team semi-finals in the World Junior Championships in Nanchang, China on Thursday (Oct 3).

Malaysia beat Denmark 110-85 in the quarter-finals to set up a meeting against top seeds China in the semis.

China beat Taiwan 110-74 in another quarter-finals.

The other semi-final match up will be between Indonesia and Japan.

Faiq showed his prowess by playing in both singles and doubles events. Faiq and Lok Hong Quan defeated Philip Kryger Boe-Jakob Clausen 22-12 after Ong Xin Yee had ousted Kajsa van Dalm 11-8 in the opening match.

Kang Khai Xing-Dania Sofea and Dania-Carmen Ting won their respective mixed doubles and girls' doubled matches before Faiq returned to beat William Bogebjerg to bring the rally scoring to 55-38.

Those who played after Faiq in the 10-match over 11-point rally scoring tie and kept the winning momentum were Xin Yee, Khai Xing-Aaron Tai, Aaron-Carmen, Xin Yee-Carmen and Sng Wei Ming.
