Hendrawan set to leave BAM after 15 years


Indonesian Hendrawan is set to leave his position as men's singles coach in the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) at the end of October after 15 years.

PETALING JAYA: Men singles coach Hendrawan is set to leave the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) after 15 years.

National coaching director Rexy Mainaky confirmed that Hendrawan's contract will not be extended.

His contract is supposed to end at the end of this year.

"Hendrawan will be leaving BAM at the end of this month," said Rexy at the Academy Badminton Malaysia (ABM) in Bukit Kiara on Tuesday (Oct 1).

"He has served the national body well for the past 15 years and his experience has been invaluable. We thank him for his services and wish him all the best for his next position," he added.

Indonesian Hendrawan joined BAM in 2009 and guided Datuk Lee Chong Wei to two of his silver medals in the 2012 London and 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics.

He also coached Lee Zii Jia before the latter turned independent in 2022 and then guided Ng Tze Yong.

Rexy said that BAM were looking to fill the position as head of the men's singles squad.

Meanwhile, another men's singles coach, Datuk Tey Seu Bock, has been switched from the senior team to coach the junior men's singles.

K. Yogendran will move from the women's singles to men's singles while junior men's singles coach Alvin Chew has been moved to the senior men's singles squad.
