Badminton: Zii Jia, Aaron-Wooi Yik storm into Denmark Open final

Lee Zii Jia will face China's Weng Hongyang in the Denmark Open men's singles final on Sunday (Oct 22).

PETALING JAYA: Shuttlers Lee Zii Jia and Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik have made it into the Denmark Open men's singles and doubles finals respectively.

World No. 11 Zii Jia continued his impressive run by beating Hong Kong's world No. 18 Lee Cheuk Yiu 21-15, 21-17 in the last four at the Jyske Bank Arena in Odense on Saturday (Oct 21).

The independent player has now reached his second consecutive final in the tournament after finishing runners-up to China's Shi Yuqi in last year's edition.

It was also Zii Jia's second final in a row after he had captured the Arctic Open last week.

Zii Jia will seek to win back-to-back titles when he takes on Yuqi's compatriot and Australian Open winner Weng Hongyang in the final on Sunday (Oct 22).

Hongyang stunned world No. 4 Yuqi 21-19, 21-14 to book his spot in the title match.

Meanwhile, world No. 4 Aaron-Wooi Yik showed great fighting spirit to come back from a game down to defeat home favourites and world No. 6 Kim Astrup-Anders Skaarup Rasmussen 16-21, 21-15, 21-15 in a thrilling last four match.

It will be Aaron-Wooi Yik's fourth final this year after they had finished runners-up at the Opens in India, Indonesia and China.

The duo will be out to end their World Tour title drought when they face Indonesia's 2022 All-England champions and world No. 14 Shohibul Fikri-Bagas Maulana in the final.

Shohibul-Bagas toppled world No. 2 teammates and defending champions Fajar Alfian-Rian Ardianto 21-11, 16-21, 21-12 in the other semi-final match.
