World champions Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik will be one of the stars on show at the Malaysian Open

PETALING JAYA: Badminton fans can start purchasing their tickets for the Malaysian Open from 11am tomorrow.

The tournament, which has been upgraded from Super 750 to 1000, is set to take place from Jan 10-15 at the Axiata Arena in Bukit Jalil.

“Fans surely remember the excitement of this year’s event. The event saw capacity crowds on a daily basis. Next year will be even more thrilling as the top players attempt to start the year with a bang,” said Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) secretary Datuk Kenny Goh.

“Our own players will be aiming for glory.”

Malaysia will be banking on reigning world champions Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik (men’s doubles), French Open winners Pearly Tan and M Thinaah (men’s doubles) and Asian champion Lee Zii Jia (men’s singles) for glory.

“The backing of the Malaysian fans is critical and will go a long way in inspiring our players to go all the way at one of the world’s oldest tournaments,” he added.

Tickets, with prices starting from RM 40, will be available for purchase at https://my.bookmyshow.com/e/PMO23JAN.
