Ler Qi takes flight with two titles in JET final

PETALING JAYA: It was double delight for Selangor’s Eng Ler Qi (pic) in the 100Plus Junior Elite Tour.

Competing in the Perak leg, Ler Qi retained the girls’ Under-16 singles title and also won the doubles with partner Shan Lee Yu.

They defeated teammates Chow Hui Er-K. Reesha 21-17, 21-14.

In the singles, Ler Qi outplayed Melaka’s Shaneesa Shahidi 21-12, 21-16 in 45 minutes at the Perak Badminton Academy in Ipoh.

“I was more composed and controlled my attacks throughout the match.

“Of course I’m happy that I am able to defend the title but I have to practice more to improve, especially my net shots,” said Ler Qi.

In the boys’ Under-16 singles, Shawn Hiu of Selangor beat Yap Chun Sin of Kuala Lumpur 22-20, 21-8 in the final.

“I was quite hasty and made many mistakes in the first game but was helped by several lucky shots. In the second game, my opponent slowed down and I took advantage of the situation,” he said.

Perak took the boys’ doubles gold when Fan Jing Xuan-Muhd Al-Imran Jasni beat teammates Loh Chee Kiat-Rex Ng Man Hei 21-16, 21-16.

“We played our normal game and did not feel any pressure despite playing on home ground and against our teammates. The win is a pleasant surprise as we just teamed up one week before the tournament,” said Al-Imran.

In the Under-14 category, Kuala Lumpur’s Teh Xin Ying also lifted both the girls’ singles and doubles titles.

Xin Ying retained the singles crown by defeating teammate and second seed Teoh Sue Mei 21-8, 21-10 and then partnered Wong Au Mei to beat second seeds Chan Zhi Xuan Annabelle-Lim Yew Ern of Selangor 21-9, 21-15.
