Awsome show: Malaysia’s Grace Wong celebrating her win.
BANGKOK: Malaysia’s ironlady Grace Wong delivered a record-shattering masterclass to clinch gold in the women’s hammer throw at the Thailand SEA Games.
The 25-year-old was in a class of her own at the Supachalasai Stadium on Friday (Nov 12), smashing the national record three times in the final to secure her third consecutive SEA Games title.
Grace wasted no time asserting her authority, opening with a powerful 63.34m throw to erase the Games record of 61.87m, which was a mark she herself had set at the Cambodia Games in 2023.
She raised the bar further in her second attempt with a 63.83m effort, surpassing her own national record of 63.53m, before unleashing an even bigger throw of 65.09m in her third.
The Malaysian was far from done, producing her best effort of the day by throwing a commanding 65.41m in the fourth round to put the gold well beyond reach.
Although her final throw landed at 64.01m, it was her earlier mark that sealed a dominant victory.
Grace’s rise in the event has been nothing short of remarkable.
She first announced herself on the regional stage with a 59.24m throw at the Hanoi SEA Games, and has since continued to push her limits and the record books with every major outing.
It was the first gold in athletics for Malaysia at the Thailand Games after a poor day on Thursday.
