No Semi-Final Spot for Umar Osman in Tokyo

PETALING JAYA: National middle-distance runner Umar Osman’s World Championships 400m campaign came to an early end after he missed out on a place in the semi-finals.

The 22-year-old clocked 46.43s to finish eighth in Heat Three of the men’s 400m at the National Stadium in Tokyo, Japan, on Sunday (Sept 14).

The race was won by American Jacory Patterson, who blazed to victory in 43.90s. Jamaica’s Rusheen McDonald took second in 44.38s, while Italy’s Edoardo Scotti placed third with 44.45s - a new national record for his country.

Umar had set his sights on breaking his own Malaysian record of 46.09s, but fell short this time.

Still, the experience in Tokyo is expected to serve as valuable preparation ahead of the SEA Games in December.
