Fatin rides the wind to qualify

NATIONAL compound archer Fatin Nurfatehah Mat Salleh (pic) rolled the wind to make it past the Asian Games individual qualification round at the Fuyang Yinhu Sports Centre yesterday.

The 32-year-old finished 27th with a score of 674 points to qualify for the 1/32 elimination round tomorrow.

Fatin said the conditions were windy but it wasn’t erratic.

“The wind pattern was consistent, so it is fine for archery. But it isn’t the same every day, so I have to adapt to the conditions quickly,” she said.

“It can be tricky but I can deal with it. This is archery, we just need to keep going.

“In the first set, I wasn’t doing too well but I managed to pick myself up in the second. I hope to use the momentum from the second set to do well in the mixed team and individual rounds. I just want to shoot better and better.”

India’s Surekha Vennam finished first in the qualification with 704 points, while South Korean duo So Chae-won and Oh Yoo-hyun finished second and third with 699 and 697 points respectively.

In the men’s compound individual qualification, Fatin’s mixed team partner Juwaidi Mazuki was the best Malaysian, finishing ninth with a score of 702 points.

Alang Ariff Mohd Ghaz also qualified for the elimination round, finishing 12th with a score of 699.
