More buses can help reduce traffic congestion


FORMER minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Dr Zaliha Mustafa previously stated that a 2020 study by public transportation systems agency Prasarana Malaysia Berhad revealed that the country incurred lost RM20bil annually due to traffic congestion. If no action is taken moving forward, the economic loss could exceed RM100bil in five years.

Apart from this, Malaysia has one of the highest car ownership rates in Asia. In May 2025, the Deputy Prime Minister said the number of registered vehicles had reached 38.7 million, surpassing our 34.1 million population.
