Malaysia deserves a modern, transparent property landscape

RECENT reports of more than 107 abandoned housing projects affecting over 15,000 buyers show how vulnerable ordinary Malay-sians still are in our property market. Behind each number is a family that has poured in their lifesavings, a young couple bound to a 30-year loan, or a small business owner hoping to build a future. Many are left without keys and without legal protection.

The root problem is that our current laws were drafted for a different era. Act 118, or the Housing Development (Control and Licensing) Act 1966, was written when most projects were simple, purely residential developments.
