Act decisively to retain medical specialists

I REFER to recent reports that only three out of 73 Malaysian medical specialists who had worked abroad have returned to serve in the Health Ministry between 2021 and 2025. This sobering statistic highlights an urgent challenge: the continuing loss of highly-trained specialists from our public healthcare system.

This problem is not new. Every year, many of our local medical graduates emigrate in search of better professional and personal opportunities. Heavy workloads, limited career progression, contract uncertainties, and comparatively low remuneration have eroded morale among our healthcare professionals.
