THE Malaysian Pharmacists Society (MPS) notes the recent statement by the president of the Malaysian Medical Association, Datuk Dr R. Thirunavukarasu, that “doctors must lead Malaysia’s health policy”. The MPS acknowledges the vital role of doctors in safeguarding health and shaping policy, but believes that leadership of the nation’s healthcare system should not fall to one profession alone.

In a modern health system, policy must be the product of shared leadership, where pharmacists, doctors, nurses, allied health professionals, and patients all have a voice. Only then will policies be comprehensive, resilient, and reflective of the rakyat’s needs.
