Review timing of recess in schools

MUCH has been said and written about the health of children, especially those developing diabetes at a very young age. Many suggestions and proposals have been put forward, but the effects of our school traditions are often overlooked. One that deserves urgent attention is the timing of recess.

As far as I am aware, recess time for the morning session is between 9.30am and 10am. Some schools start a little earlier or a little later. In my view, this is too late and therefore unhealthy for the children, as many would not have had breakfast due to the rush to reach school by 7am.
