Celebrating two pillars of our future – mothers and teachers

MOTHER’S Day and Teacher’s Day are both celebrated in the month of May. It’s a fitting coincidence as these two occasions honour individuals who share a remarkably similar and sacred mission: both mothers and teachers play defining roles in determining the success of families and nations alike.

A mother is the heart of every family. She is the architect of the warm, secure and loving environment we call home. As the saying goes: “Having a place to go is home, having someone to love is family, and having both is a blessing.”

A responsible, caring and capable mother brings priceless blessings to her family. She is the first person a newborn attaches to; her warm embrace gives the child a foundational sense of security and belonging.

As the adage reminds us, children learn what they live. A child raised in an environment filled with happiness, fairness and mutual respect grows into a confident, sociable and optimistic individual.

While fathers undeniably play an equally vital role in building a harmonious family, it is often mothers who spend the most time with children during their formative early years, particularly throughout primary school.

If mothers lay the foundation, teachers build upon it. They are the second most influential figures in a child’s developmental journey, stepping in as guides, mentors and role models during the critical phase of formal education.

A dedicated teacher is, in many ways, a devoted mother in the classroom in nurturing curiosity, instilling discipline and inspiring growth in what becomes a child’s second home.

A well-led, discipline-oriented school guided by a visionary headmaster and passionate teachers is one of a nation’s greatest assets. It is within these walls that physically and mentally balanced talents are cultivated, ready to contribute meaningfully to society.

Mothers and teachers are the twin pillars upon whom the future of every family and every nation rests. Their sacrifices are often quiet, their rewards frequently understated, yet their impact echoes across generations.

As we celebrate both Mother’s Day and Teacher’s Day this May, let us take a moment to express our deepest gratitude to every mother and teacher who has devoted their unconditional love and made countless sacrifices in shaping a better tomorrow.
